A giant T-Rex for your party: this inflatable dinosaur grows to 12 metres

Gadget of the day

When an ordinary bouncy castle is no longer enough, the apex predator of the Cretaceous comes to the rescue. Bulgarian company Disco Designer’s Giant T-Rex is an inflatable dinosaur for festivals, clubs and themed events. You can choose its height from two to twelve metres.

Key facts

  • Product: Giant T-Rex, inflatable event decoration
  • Manufacturer: Disco Designer EOOD, Ruse, Bulgaria
  • Size: available from 2 to 12 metres tall in one-metre steps
  • Price: no public price, quote on request only (€0 in the online store)

What is it?

Giant T-Rex is a large inflatable figure. It is meant to be an eye-catcher for a venue, not a toy for children to play on. According to the manufacturer, it is made of durable, weather-resistant material and is easy to set up. On the product page you choose four things: the height from 2 to 12 metres, the body type, a so-called Noise Reduction Box and the level of relief.

The body can be ordered in three ways: as a wide, free-standing body, on a narrow base to be anchored to the ground, or on a narrow base with a custom-cut body. Judging by its name, the Noise Reduction Box is an accessory that dampens the sound of the blower. The manufacturer does not say on the product page how much quieter it makes it. The relief is available as low or high, meaning the dinosaur’s scales can be flatter or more three-dimensional.

Who makes it?

Disco Designer says it started in 1998, when Bulgarian DJ Peter Yordanov began designing nightclub interiors. According to the company’s own story, this grew into a business specialising in themed decorations for nightclubs, festivals and amusement parks, which since 2010 has had a factory and design studio in Ruse on the banks of the Danube. We were unable to verify the figures the company states, such as more than 700 club projects and €25 million in sales within a decade, from an independent source.

Independent evidence of the company’s existence comes from the amusement industry association IAAPA. Disco Designer EOOD placed second in the large-booth category of the Brass Ring Best Exhibit awards at the IAAPA Expo Europe trade show in Amsterdam in September 2024. The judges praised the booth as eye-catching and the products as interesting.

Why it matters

Giant inflatable figures are social-media magnets at events, and a dinosaur is a safe bet. This product, however, is clearly for businesses, not homes: the price is only available on request, and the twelve-metre version requires permits from the venue, anchoring and a continuously running blower. If you dream of a T-Rex for your summer cottage garden, a dino costume from a toy shop is the cheaper option and kinder to your relations with the neighbours. Anyone requesting a quote should also ask about the blower’s power consumption and noise level in decibels, because the product page states neither.

Finnish reality check · comment

In Finland, a 12-metre T-Rex faces two forces of nature: autumn storms and the housing company board. So the anchoring option is not superfluous.

Our verdict

This isn’t for home use, but for a festival organiser it is an obvious choice: a dinosaur always sells, and the choice of height makes it surprisingly versatile. Plus points for the noise-reduction box and the anchoring option, minus points for the secret price. We hope the quote also comes with a photo of the finished dino at a real event. We look forward to the first Finnish city festival brave enough to bring the Cretaceous and an autumn storm onto the same lawn.
