Peräsmies rises from the ashes: fan video revives Finland’s legendary fart-powered superhero!
Hello, fans of Finnish comics and absurd humour! If you remember the 80s and 90s underground gem Pahkasika magazine, you’ll know Peräsmies (roughly “Butt Man”) – the legendary satirical superhero created by Timo Kokkila, who flies on fart power and fights evil fuelled by pea soup. Here’s a fan video that brings this iconic character to life in digital form – and best of all, with Kokkila’s full permission!
The video is a quick but juicy peek at the origin story of Peräsmies, alias Kalervo Perälä. Picture this: a down-and-out drunk is lying in Sinebrychoff Park in Helsinki when a radioactive can of pea soup falls from the sky and lands right next to his head. He wolfs it down and suddenly – BOOM! – radioactive fart power activates. The man staggers to his feet, his belly cramps in a green glow, and then it happens: a massive “PRRRT!” explodes, propelling him into superherohood. All in photorealistic live-action style that mixes serious superhero drama with Finnish hangover humour. It’s Man of Steel meets Aki Kaurismäki – but with farts!
The video isn’t just a fun stunt; it’s also a tribute to the abandoned film project planned in the early 2000s. Remember the rumours? A Peräsmies movie almost happened, but it ended up on the shelf for good. This fan video gives a taste of what it might have looked like: absurd, over the top and full of Finnish self-confidence. Imagine a whole film in which Peräsmies battles the Soviet Comrade Fart or saves the world from climate change – all with fart power! Would it have been the next Iron Sky, or something even crazier?
If you want to see how radioactive pea soup turns a beer-bellied bum into a hero, check out the video. It’s only a few seconds long, but I promise it’ll leave a mark – maybe even a whiff!
What do you think? Did Peräsmies deserve his own movie? Comment below or share your own Pahkasika memories. If this inspires anyone, maybe we’ll get that official reboot one day!
